Work Measurement

Work can be measured by a number of different techniques… ‘Estimation’, ‘Time Study’, ‘Synthetic data’, Rated Activity Sampling etc. AS Consulting prefers, where possible, to use Tectime to time the clients ‘actual’ staff following the ‘actual’ procedures with the ‘actual’ equipment, ‘actual’ products’ & within the ‘actual’ layout. This means that the resultant Time Standards account for ALL the relevant factors that impact on the work content of a given task. This approach delivers Time Standards that are meaningful to staff & managers. Thus, your people will have complete confidence in the values that may be used for planning &/OR performance measurement. AS Consulting recognises that your staff are at the heart of productivity improvement & they must have faith in the process.

Work Measurement allows companies to ACCURATELY measure the work content of defined methods & processes. Estimating the work content of a job without proper measurement is like throwing darts at a dartboard while wearing a blindfold!!! Using Time Standards (i.e. Method Measures) produced by a qualified Analyst means you are hitting on or close to the bull when quantifying the work involved in a specific task.

Time standards allow managers to plan & budget based on what they ‘SHOULD’ be achieving instead of what they ‘DID’ achieve. Work measurement often shows that client operations can be run with 40% fewer staff without compromising service levels!! Using too many staff to carry out your work requirements is very costly as………………………..TIME IS MONEY!!
Time standards offer CONSISTENCY as they conform to British Standard. Qualified Analysts produce results that are within a tolerance of +/- 5%.
Standard Minute Values (Method Measures) provides the FAIREST way to measure individual or team performance. This is because they are based on ‘Standard Performance’ which is an internationally recognised benchmark. Target setting is done independently of both management & unions and is, thus, deemed acceptable to both parties. This is true to the extent that work measurement offers the ONLY meaningful basis for Incentive schemes.
